How reading is important in one's life.
Can you imagine a world without books and other kinds of reading materials? Today, we enjoy such a wide array of reading materials books, magazines, newspapers, comics, and others. Yet, we do not seem to attempt to read. In a recent survey to find out about the reading habits of our students, it was discovered that a majority of students hardly read. What a lost! Obviously, students do not realize the pleasures and benefits and that is why I am standing here in front of all of you to tell you about the importance of reading.
Before I go on any further let me define the meaning of the word reading.Reading comes from the base word "read" in which according to Oxford Dictionary, means to "look at and comprehend the meaning of(written or printed matter) by interpreting the characters or symbols of which it is composed".So here, reading literally means an activity we do such as reading books, magazines, newspapers and so on. In my opinion, reading is an activity that everyone must practice every day to gain knowledge. Nowadays, many people dislike reading. They do not know that reading habit will widen their thinking horizon. In today's challenging world with so much to know, everyone needs to help themselves updated. This will only be achieved through reading. Reading is an essential essence to succeed in life. Reading is one of the best characteristics that a person can possess.
"Reading maketh a man"; I am very sure many of you have heard this saying. Reading generates a host of benefit. A person who reads knows about worldly matters. He will have knowledge of current affairs. He will also be able to keep up with what is going on in the world besides increasing his general knowledge.
To all my fellow friends, reading improves one's language command. It expands and improves our vocabulary and we will have the ability to express ourselves with a large array of words. We can also see how writers put down their thoughts and feelings in writing and this will lead to better writing skills. In this way, reading enhances our literal skills. A person who can speak and write well has an advantage over a person who does not because, after all, "the pen is mightier than a sword".
Reading also brings magical changes in human. By reading it does not only improve a man's reading and writing but also brings about self-development. Such development becomes noticeable when a man starts presenting good attributes. This is a definite change that ensures when a man spends time reading.
Besides that, it creates a great consciousness and awareness in a person in making any kind of decisions in life. A person who rarely reads or never reads does not think critically or even has less guidance in making any decision in life compared to those who read. Every motivational or health based on books or magazines gives a lot of ideas and knowledge to a person. This eventually brings another good advantage of reading that is, it gives improved analytical thinking. A person stars thinking on smallest matters vigilantly to give the best results which come from the consciousness and awareness after the person starts adding or improved the reading habit that one has.
For the man who has achieved in whatever field he ventured in, definitely be due to reading also. This ultimately shows that reading also helps to prioritize the goals in every human life. No matter whatever field it is let it be medical, architecture engineering or even teaching, one cannot be able to achieve the ambition, goals, dreams in life without reading. This show how important reading in life. A person who is able to mix with others is a better conversationalist than who do not read. He can stand his ground. Reading broadens the vision.
Moreover, reading also helps to enrich and improve a person's language. There are certain words which are seldom used in spoken language but which occur more in writing. A person who reads comes across such words and thus increases his vocabulary. When speaking, we often do not use complete or properly constructed sentences.
Reading the works of prominent writers like Charles Dickens or John Steinback can help us gain skills in handling complex issues. Reading interesting stories can make us forget our devastating problems in life.
So friends, think about the joys and benefits you will miss by not reading anyway, "it is never too late to mend". Start reading today and you will not regret it.
